HISTORY:
The present RTHS Alumni Association was established in 1992 by Bill Parsons a 1932 graduate.

MISSION:
The mission of the Alumni Association is to raise funds for scholarships from Alumni and friends for RTHS graduates who are planning to attend college. In the year 1992 the first year four $1000.00 scholarships were awarded. In the spring of 2005 Twenty Three $1000.00 scholarships
were awarded.

HOW DOES THE ASSOCIATION WORK?
The board consists of 12 members all of whom are Alumni... The board develops an annual newsletter which highlights the past years events at RTHS and the giving of our Alumni. The board also stuffs envelopes, sends out 2 mailings and in general coordinates and carries out the scholarship fund drive. The scholarship recipients are also selected by the board members. The RTHS Alumni newsletter is mailed to over 8000 RTHS Alumni. The only costs for the program are the material, printing, and postage for the newsletter. All board members volunteer their services.

WHO BELONGS TO THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION?
Everyone who has ever RTHS is a member. There are no applications to fill out and there are no dues.

HOW DO THE SCHOLARSHIPS WORK?
The scholarships are awarded in increments of $1000.00. The applicants are selected on the basis of need, academics, and community involvement. In the spring of 2005 there were 47 applicants and 39% of the applicants received awards.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Since 1992 through 2005 $174,000.00 has been awarded to RTHS graduates in the form of scholarships.

In 1999 Bob Motlong a 1943 Graduate donated $40,000.00 to the association in memory of his parents C. W. Motlong and Pearl Motlong. Because the donation is over $20,000.00, 2 scholarships will be awarded annually in his parents names. $20,000.00 has been donated by the estate of Martha Wright in her name. The class of 1953 has raised $21,624.00 from class members annually. The Chris Heisner family has donated $20,000.00 in memory of Chris for an annual scholarship.

Some classes who are holding class reunions have been giving $1000.00 to honor their reunion, the latest being the Class of 1852 in memory of Courtnay Nelson, and the Class of 1950 in the memory of Keith Weiner.

Other $1000.00 awards that have been given annually are in the memory Alma Happe, Tom Charmichael, Lyle Kersten, Willard Gieske, Ann Klewin, and Michael Robert Hall. Also two family scholarships are presented from the William and Miriam Richards and the Ravanaas Family.

The friends of Bill Gieske are attempting to raise $20,000.00 so that an annual scholarship in his memory can be given. That fund is currently at $13,300. Hopefully those people who knew Bill will make this happen.

Smaller donations are accumulated into General $1000.00 Alumni Association scholarship.

We have just partnered with the “Nicor Illinois Dollars for Scholars” program that could infuse another $5000.00 annually into our program.

We would like to thank all the Alumni who have given so generously to this program and made it such a success. We hope you will continue your support. All donations are tax deductible as we are a Not for Profit and Charitable Organization.

If you would like to make a contribution, Make your check payable to the “RTHS Alumni Association” and please mail it to the RTHS Alumni Association, P. O. Box 622 Rochelle, Illinois 61068.
